Turkey

More bad news for the Turkey industry.  Click above to learn more about the slow down in Turkey production here in the United States.

Fogging

Fogging is an excellent way to control the bacteria count in a room.  Hatcheries use fogging as part of their daily sanitation, but fogging is not just for hatchery use.  Fogging is a great way to disinfect rooms, barns, or just about any enclosed environment.  With PronTech you can feel safe and secure when using it as a fogging agent.  Because PronTech reduces the surface tension of the water when added to it helps it to be an excellent fogging agent.  PronTech will hold in the air longer because it is a smaller molecule.  This lets it penetrate microscopic areas as well as travel through the whole room before falling to the ground.  PronTech has been proven to remain in suspension longer than most other brands without the need to add a fogging agent.  Also, PronTech is not an oxidizer, therefore it will not be harmful or corrosive to your equipment. One other property of PronTech that makes it a better choice over many competing brands is that it does not leave behind any sticky residue.  So, the next time you need disinfect a room, house, or animal facility consider fogging and consider using PronTech.

Drinker Line Cleaning

Drinker lines are the mains sources of water for chickens or swine while in grow out houses.  These lines have the ability to transport clean fresh water to the animals, but they also have the ability to transport bacteria, or fungus to them.  Water lines build up bio-film.  This bio-film is the perfect place for bacteria and fungus to live.  There have also been studies that show viruses live within this bio-film.  To make sure to have a clean water source it is common practice to flush in a cleaner to try and remove any build up.  The key is to make sure you are using a cleaner that is doing the best job possible.  PronTech's patented formulation gives it the ability to chemically bond with the bio-film to emulsify it and remove the build up.  After removing the build up PronTech can then kill any pathogen present.  Look below at the handout to see how well PronTech performed against other drinker line cleaners that are much more corrosive and dangerous.

Bacteria Control

We have all been guilty of this common simple act of washing raw chicken in the kitchen sink.  This helps to rinse off the slime on the meat and most people believe they are cleaning the chicken as well when rinsing it under the faucet water.  This however creates an even bigger problem of cross contamination.  Because of water splatter bacteria is spread onto more surfaces creating an environment that is conducive to possible outbreaks.  To lower your risk of bacterial infection from poultry, make sure to cook any meat thoroughly.  Rinsing with water does not kill the bacteria.  Check out the link below for more information.

Salmonella Outbreak

No matter if you are a major contract grower for a larger integrator or if you have a few chickens in your back yard, there is always the possibility contracting a disease from exposure.  This is why proper hygiene and bio-security should always be practiced.  After touching any live animal your hands should be washed with antibacterial soap.  Facilities that house animals should also be cleaned with a disinfectant.  PronTech can be used for all of your needs.  PronTech's patented formulation allows you to wash your hands in it as well as use it to sanitize animal facilities.  Remember to take all necessary precautions in the future to prevent out breaks like the one listed below.

Salmonella In Poultry Processing Plants

Salmonella is a bacteria that the poultry industry is constantly fighting.  Processing plants are where most testing is done, but tests are done on farms as well as the industry is always trying to improve its ability to fight this pathogen.  The article below though discusses an issue that may or may not be an issue and that is residuals of disinfectants causing better than expected lab tests.  The concern is that the disinfectant is killing the bacteria in the samples even after it is rinsed off.  The industry states that this is not happening and this article points out several flaws in the presentation that was given stating the contrary.  Residual action is one of PronTech's strengths.  It is what helps it to stand out against other products.  At 400 ppm PronTech has the ability to be used on food contact surfaces without a potable rinse.  This is because of PronTech's low toxicity and safety.  To know more about PronTech and its uses send us an email or leave a comment.  Below is the article discussing the issue of chemical residue and Salmonella control.

For Horse Enthusiasts

Here is a quick video discussing cleaning and disinfecting horse stalls and stables.  Remember with PronTech, it is non-corrosive and even at high concentrations it is not irritable.  PronTech also has excellent penetrating ability allowing it to penetrate untreated wood to kill bacteria living in there as well as penetrate dirt floors.  PronTech is your safe, reliable choice for your Equine needs.

Rise of Disinfectants

Bacteria build resistance to more than just antibiotics, they also can build a resistance to disinfectants.  PronTech is designed in a way that bacteria cannot build a resistance.  This makes it more effective than other kinds of disinfectants because you will always get the same kinds of results.

Swine Flu

In the US the swine flu maybe a larger threat to public safety than the bird flu.  Recently there was an outbreak of bird flu in Arkansas, but this outbreak was quickly found and contained.  No humans were affected and the threat of an outbreak is over.  With that being said, 4 local citizens in Indiana have become ill with swine flu after visiting a local fair.  They are all being treated and a full blown outbreak seems unlikely, but bio-security has to become part of our daily mindset as handlers of livestock.  PronTech is the ideal disinfectant to be used because of its ability to be used in high amounts of organic matter.  PronTech also, has a very low toxicity.  This allows it to be used throughout your operation. When going to fairs and livestock shows make sure to do your part in helping to maintain a safe environment.  Use PronTech to clean your trucks and trailers before leaving your farm.  You will also want to make sure your boots are cleaned and disinfected.  You can then use PronTech to maintain a clean bedding for your animals while at the fair.  Anyone who comes in contact with your animals will need to use TopSani to clean there hands.  TopSani is our patented hand sanitizer made with PronTech.  The most important bio-security measure is to make sure your animals are clean and healthy before ever leaving your facilities.  With proper practices and working together to ensure all proper steps are taken we can help to minimize further outbreaks of harmful diseases.

I have added a link to the article discussing the swine flu in Indiana if you want to know more what happened there.

Avian Flu

There has currently been an outbreak of Avian Flu in Arkansas.

This outbreak may not be big but it has caused three countries Russia, Japan, and China to stop importing chicken from Arkansas.  The economic impact of these countries not importing meat will have a major effect on Arkansas's economy.  This is why having top notch bio-security has become essential.  As an industry we must make sure to take all the proper steps to ensure all facilities are properly managed.  This means washing and disinfecting farms on a regular basis as well as controlling who visits these farms.  PronTech is designed to control bacteria, virus, and fungus pathogens.  By using PronTech farmers and companies can feel secure that they are protecting their investments from harmful outbreaks.  PronTech is a non oxidizer allowing it to be used directly on equipment without worrying about corrosion.  So, the next time you sell birds and clean your houses out, make sure to wash down your houses to prevent further outbreaks like these from happening.

The Heat Is Among Us Are You Ready

With the the summer heat fully on us you want to make sure you are ready for what looks to be a hot summer.  PronTech is the ideal solution to cool cell pad cleaning.  With its patented formulation PronTech is able to remove sediment, help prevent future buildup, and prevents algae growth.  PronTech works through emulsification and penetration instead of oxidation which is why PronTech should be your first choice to use when you are cleaning your cool cell pads.

Below are pictures of PronTech in action. Scroll down to see how PronTech takes dried pads and begins to flow through them after being added to the circulation tank.  Remember after circulating PronTech over your pads you will need to flush out your trough.  You do not want the sediment that has been broken loose to recirculate back through.  Good Luck this summer!!

Dry pads before PronTech has been added.

If you look closely you can see the sediment buildup.

After just 15 minutes of circulation PronTech is starting to work.

Look at how well PronTech has covered the cool cell pads.

Closer look at PronTech in action.

Now time to rinse, flush out the trough, and you are ready for the summer heat.

Summer Ventilation

With summer coming upon us it is time to do some Spring Cleaning.  Farmers will need to formulate a check list to make sure they cover all the proper inspections and have everything in place for the hot summer months.  One of the main areas of concern is your cool cell pads.  Cool cell pads sit all winter exposed to the weather, which causes them to build up algae and sediment. You will want to make sure that they are properly cleaned and then maintained throughout the summer, since dirty cool cells are the biggest restriction to your air flow. If your pads are not in good working condition then your wind speed will not be fast enough to pull the air through the length of the house.  Cool pads need to absorb water as well as have the water evaporate to cool the air down.  If you have built up sediment on them, then they will not be able to absorb the correct amount of water causing your air not to be cooled properly.  Not only will this affect the air quality but it can also cause issues with your floors.  If the air is to heavy or the airspeed is not fast enough, then instead of the air flowing throughout the house, it will fall before it makes it to the rear.  Cake will begin to develop in the front of your houses, plus you will see a more drastic change in temperature between the front of your houses and the rear.  The cool air will fall in the front of the house, this will only leave warm air to be pulled out the rear.

When you go to clean your cool cells, you will want to spray or foam the outside first with PronTech.  PronTech is an algaecide which will kill any built up algae as well as help to break loose any sediment.  Next you will want to do a thorough cleaning, with CleanTech.  CleanTech is a non-ionic cleaner.  You will add this to your tank and do a flush cycle.  The combination of PronTech and CleanTech will work together as a one two punch in your preparation to get your cool cells in working condition for summer ventilation.  Throughout the summer you will then want to maintain your systems by adding PronTech to your systems once a week to help prevent any algae growth.  You will also want to flush CleanTech through your system once a month to make sure no sediment builds up.  If you have water that is high in calcium, iron, or other minerals then you will want to use CleanTech more frequently.

Good luck with your preparations and if you have any questions please let us here at UPI know how we can help you.

More Is Not Always Better

Recently we had a customer purchase PronTech to use on his farm.  He asked the typical questions, how do I apply the product, how much water do I need, etc.  I asked my client several times, before I sent him home with PronTech, if he understood how to use it and if he needed any help.  He reassured me he understood what to do, but if he had any questions he would call.  That was last week so I thought I would give him a quick visit to see how he liked PronTech and to see how well it worked for him.  When I arrived at his farm I noticed he still had an ammonia problem (not too bad, but still noticeable).  I then began to ask the gentleman the steps he took in his use of PronTech.  He followed the instructions of applying PronTech perfectly, however (and this is a big however), he thought he would use another product before he used PronTech.  More the Merrier, right?  In this case NO.  With PronTech we must be sure the other chemicals it is used with are compatible.   Prontech is cationic (positive charge).  If you use a product that is anionic (negative charge) they cancel each other out.  My client, without realizing it, cancelled out any effectiveness he would have gained from using PronTech.  More is not always better, therefore we must always be prudent in our application of any product- especially with PronTech, otherwise both time and money are wasted.  For any questions regarding the use of PronTech feel free to contact us and we will do whatever we can to help you.  And remember... The only bad question is the one never asked!

Thoughts From IPE

I had the opportunity this year to walk around and visit with other exhibitors.  One observation that I noticed while looking around is how PronTech stood above its competitors.  PronTech can be applied in the total production of poultry.  PronTech is a product that can be used from the Farm, to Hatcheries, to Processing Plants, and beyond.  As one customer so adequately stated "PronTech is a Farm to the Floor product."
This statement is true because of the unique make-up of PronTech, which is why there is a U.S. Patent for PronTech.  There is no other product that can claim to be like PronTech and no other product has the ability to fit into all the facets of poultry production like PronTech can.  IPE 2013 has set the tone for this year and from the looks of things it is going to be a great year.  Thanks to all of you who came by and visited with us!  We look forward to working with each of you this year and beyond!

International Poultry Expo 2013
